While I was writing Haunted Marietta, my husband and I travelled the area taking lots of photos. of places where people have seen ghosts over the years. Many of them are in the book, but we had a lot more that did not get used. My friend, Crystal Pinson, also took some in St. James Cemetery and the Witch's Graveyard for me. These are some of the great photos we did not get to use in the book.
Here is an interesting photo. While we were in St. James Cemetery in Marietta, GA, I took a couple of pictures of Jon-Benet Ramsey's grave. Originally, it was only marked with a simple cross to avoid papparazzi. Now, she and her mother and her sister all have tombstones here. But in this picture of the original marker, I clearly see an angel figure which no one else seems to see. I don't think it's paranormal: there are angel figures hanging all over the tree above the grave. But I like it. Do you see it?
This is the Witch's Graveyard. It looks peaceful here, but it
doesn't feel peaceful. There's no reason to think any witch was ever buried
there, but there does seem to be some angry or sad spirit there. People often
see mists there even on sunny days. When we were there, my camera batteries
drained and I could feel the difference in temperature by sticking my hand
through the fence. (I did not enter the locked fence; I respect rules.) It was
definitely cooler inside the graveyard.
The so-called "Devil's Turnaround," a cemetery with a lot of reported paranormal and some obvious and despicable vandalism
The Brumby Loft Apartments used to be the Brumby Chair Company. When I wrote Haunted Marietta, I could not find anyone to tell me any experiences who is living there now. I had stories from before, when it was offices in the 1990's. But since the book came out, I've been told of a young woman who just moved out who heard many strange sounds and felt strange sensations of being watchd while she lived there. Her sister also felt very uncomfortable in the apartment , to the point where she had to leave, when she was helping with the moving.
This is Holly Springs Cemetery, which is in front of Emerson Unitarian Universalist Church. There are two ghost legends in the book associated with the cemetery. At the time the book came out, i did not know any stories about the church building itself, which is over 100 years old. But I have since been told that a group which used to meet t the church to play bridge in the 80's did hear strange sounds as though people were talking and moving around upstairs, but there was never anyone there.
